On March 8, 2017, my friend and I decided to visit a new bakery owned by Carlos Velazquez in Hammond, Indiana. He and his wife were born in Puerto Rico and after raising several children, they decided to open a bakery – Weekend Baker located on 215 Russell Street. Carlos prepares both American and Puerto Rican desserts. The bakery is decorated beautifully and his pastries are delicious. He also bakes a variety of cupcakes and muffins. A lovely place to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee and dessert. Carlos also bakes our traditional “pan de agua” and “pan sobao” – now you don’t have to travel to Chicago.
