Air Fried Tostones

Air Fried Tostones are flattened green plantain slices that are very crispy on the outside and tender inside while using minimal oil.  The idea is to lower your fat intake and calories compared to pan frying or deep frying.  This is a much healthier method of preparing tostones (double fried green plantains), using an air fryer.



  • 2 Green Plantains, peeled and cut into 1-inch round slices
  • 1.5 tablespoons Avocado oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder


  1.  Place plantain round slices in a bowl and evenly coat with avocado oil and garlic powder.   Let stand for 5 to 10 minutes.
  2.   Preheat Air Fryer to 360ºF for 5 minutes.
  3.   Place the plantain slices into basket and air fry at 330ºF for 10 minutes.
  4.   Flatten the plantain slices, using a tostonera or the bottom of a heavy drinking glass, and arrange them on a baking pan or cookie sheet.
  5.   Lightly brush each toston with avocado oil and sprinkle with garlic powder.
  6.   Arrange half of the tostones inside basket and air fry at 350ºF for 8 minutes.
  7.   Remove and place on a plate.  Add the second batch of tostones inside basket and air fry at 350ºF for 8 minutes.
  8.   Serve while still warm.


The garlic powder is optional.  Depending on the size of the plantain, one plantain can yield 6 to 8 plantain round slices.
